2 Chainz on Trump’s Inauguration Invite: ‘I Had to Say Nah’

President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration has been making headlines since December, when rumors surfaced of Trump’s camp having difficulties booking A-list acts to perform. With Friday’s news of Toby Keith, 3 Doors Down, and Jennifer Holliday as confirmed performers for Trump’s inauguration, another notable act revealed declining an invite to perform.

“Trump called management,” 2 Chainz revealed in an Instagram video from the back of his Maybach. “I know they’re only doing this because they can’t get nobody else. They want me to perform for him for the inauguration, but I had to say nah no matter how much money it was. I probably won’t be going to the White House no time soon. That’s why I was trying to go then.”

The claims run counter to a statement from Trump’s team, which denied paying performers and struggling to find willing acts to perform. As for 2 Chainz, he revealed having his sights set on a White House visit with outgoing President Barack Obama that never happened.

“I wanted to go to the White House, but I never got invited,” 2 Chainz added. “I seen all them beautiful pics of everybody going to all these parties, and I just wanted to say, what’s up to Barack. We all came from a troubled past. I seen him giving people some really big chances. But anyway, it didn’t happen and I’m cool with that.”

Other notable artists to get White House invites include Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, Common, and Beyoncé.
